5 ways to take your beard to the next level

It's a new decade, which is the perfect time for a new and improved look for you. What's your New Year's resolution? Do you want to hit the gym more often? Finally commit to a CrossFit regimen? Eat healthier meals and drink less alcohol? Lose a few pounds of fat or gain a few pounds of muscle? Whatever goals you've set for the year, there are benefits to declaring and working toward what you want to accomplish this year.

A new era of beard culture

Call it a rally cry, call it a movement, however you want to classify the beard transformation that you’re about to embark on, let’s do it together. We’re going to give you a few tips and tricks to up your game in the facial hair department. Proceed at full speed ahead.

5 tips to get the best beard of your life in 2020

  1. Wash those whiskers. This one seems like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised by how many bearded men don’t keep a regular washing regimen. Men, we’ve got news for you guys: ladies no likey dirty beards. Wash ‘em if you’ve got ‘em. Washing your beard will keep it clean, smelling good, and will prevent any build-up from oils that can accumulate in your beard (yuk!), which can cause breakouts. Pro tip: 2-3 washes with a natural shampoo every week are ideal.
  2. Stay trimmed. Nobody likes a 70s bush. Stuff gets stuck in there, and it isn’t pretty. If you like to keep a long beard, don’t forget to trim up your neck and even it out the ends from time to time with a little snip here and there. If you use scissors rather than trimmers, you’ll avoid split ends. Follow the contour of your face for an ideal shape. Pro tip: use a trimmer around your neckline. Take two fingers and put them on your Adam’s apple and trim your beard to the top finger, don’t follow your jawline; that will make your neckline look weak and awkward.
  3. Brush it. Use a bristle brush or a fine comb to tame the whiskers and clean out any excess crud that it might attract. Be sure to pick a quality tool. Brushing or combing your beard with the right tool will prevent breakage and help to spread products evenly, leaving you with a manicured look that will have you turning heads.
  4. You are what you eat. Believe it or not, your diet can both positively and negatively affect the state of your facial hair. If you eat crap, it’s not going to look great. So fuel up with lean meats, nuts, leafy greens, eggs, and vitamins like B5, B3, and B9 (consider taking a supplement if you’re hardcore).
  5. Condition with a premium beard product. The products you put on your beard can make or break the quality of growth, the scent, and how the skin below the hair reacts. Using a premium product that’s made with premium ingredients like Vainglory’s Beard Clay will keep your skin clear, your whiskers soft, and your honey happy. After all, what’s more important than that?
